Lin Xiaoman, a young woman, travels to the long-abandoned Nanting Mountain with half an old map to fulfill her grandfather’s last wish. There she meets Ju Yebai, a young mountain keeper who has guarded the land for years. What starts as a chance encounter unfolds into a journey to find the “old wooden hut where a promise was kept”—uncovering the past separation between her grandfather and Ju Yebai’s father: Grandpa once promised Ju’s father to declare Nanting a nature reserve, but lost contact amid war. Xiaoman’s arrival brings the long-buried promise to light. She not only fulfills Grandpa’s wish but also helps Ju Yebai understand his father. “Reaching” is never the end, but a start of keeping promises and letting go of grudges.
