Lin Shen, a 40-year-old publishing editor, has just divorced, and his daughter is studying abroad. Trapped in manuscript deadlines and his mother’s marriage pressure, he feels midlife is nothing but “enduring.” Until 25-year-old pastry chef Su Xiaotang bursts in with her grandfather’s will—she must marry “the one who understands stories best” (Lin Shen was her grandfather’s old reader) to inherit the dessert shop. Lin initially refuses, but Su’s warmth breaks through his walls: she brings hot taro paste during his late nights, helps him convince stubborn authors, and even reignites his passion for writing. Just as they grow closer, his ex-wife returns begging for reconciliation, and the publishing house faces a crisis. Lin must choose between “the comfort of the past” and “the sweetness of the future.” Behind Su’s “contract,” however, lies her grandfather’s secret about “love and courage.”
