Picture book writer Lin Wan struggles with a creative block until she rescues Gu Shen, a mysterious man whose body shatters into moonlit stardust when injured, one night in an old alley. Gu Shen claims to be a "Night Watcher" tasked with collecting unfulfilled regrets, but he's hurt after touching the "unsent love letter" in Lin Wan's sketchbook. As Lin Wan shelters him, the night scenes in her sketchbook start featuring Gu Shen automatically, and Gu Shen experiences the "warmth of human emotion" for the first time. Yet the Night Watchers' rule is strict: if they fall in love with a human, they'll dissolve into stardust before dawn. Just as they confess their feelings, Gu Shen's fingertips begin turning into light particles. Can Lin Wan use the "love" in her sketchbook to keep the man who "doesn't belong to this world"?
