Illustrator Su Xiao recently moved to a work-focused apartment in Beijing. Every late night, she spots a single lit window across the complex, where a man in a gray shirt sits typing at his desk. She sent a sticky note to start a conversation, and the two gradually became secret pen pals through the glass. One day, Su caught sight of a yellowed old photo on his windowsill: the little girl in it was herself, saved by a stranger when she was seven. The man had been quietly watching her for a full decade.
